DARAITAN: On The Rocks!

December 2015:

Situated at the foot of Sierra Madre, Brgy. Daraitan in Tanay, Rizal proves to be a worthy tourist destination spot. This underrated place offers a variety of outdoor activities such as swimming in Daraitan River, hiking in Mount Daraitan, camping near Tinipak River, and spelunking at Cave Tinungtungan. You don’t need to spend much just to experience these activities.

Boat Transfer to Daraitan Proper

GETTING THERE:

There are available Van transfers bound to Tanay Public Market in Tanay, Rizal. The terminal station is located in front of Starmall along Shaw Boulevard. The fare is 70php and the travel time is around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Upon reaching the Tanay Public Market, hire a tricycle going to Barangay Daraitan. The price is 500php (fixed), which can accommodate up to 5-6 persons. If you are a solo traveller, public jeepneys bound to Barangay Daraitan is also available for 100php per head. The travel time is about 1 hour. Expect a rocky road during the journey.

From Brangay Daraitan terminal, you need to ride a boat just to cross to the other side where the tricycle terminal going to Barangay Hall/ Registration area is located. The boat transfer fee is 5php per head, the tricycle fare is 10php per head and the registration fee is 20php per head.

BARANGAY HALL INFORMATION:

After registration, a mandatory tour guide is offered for 500php, which is good for 10 persons. You will be oriented by your assigned tour guide for 5 minutes regarding some rules and regulations in the area.

You will be asked to have a headlight if you plan to visit Tinungtungan Cave/ Daraitan Cave (must visit). Don’t worry if you don’t have any, headlight-for-rent is available in the registration area for only 30php. Another 20php registration fee is collected when you reach ‘Ate Oyet’s eatery/store’.

WHERE TO EAT:

There are available restaurants near Tanay Public Market, you can have your breakfast there if you arrive early. In Barangay Daraitan stores and restaurants are not problem in area, they are scattered and the price of the food is very affordable.

WHERE TO STAY:

Camping is allowed in the area, just ask your tour guide where to pitch your tent. You can stay overnight in Mount Daraitan if you want to. There are tents available for rent in the barangay for 300php if you don’t have one. Homestays are also available in the town, just coordinate with the Barangay Hall.

Ate Oyet’s Cottages located near Tinipak River is accepting large number of guests for an overnight stay. The rate starts at 800php for small cottage which can accommodate up to 8 persons and 1200php for big cottage good for 10 persons and above. Here’s the contact number of Ate Oyet, +639166977012.

WHAT TO DO:

  • Visit and take pictures in Tinipak River where the beautiful marble rock formations are located.
  • Do spelunking in Tinipak Cave/ Tinungtungan Cave. You can swim also in the natural Jacuzzi inside the cave.
  • Climb Mount Daraitan for hiking enthusiasts.
  • Swim in Daraitan River.
  • Relax and Eat LOMI!
